Mangaluru: Former national director of the Young Christian Students (YCS) and Young Students Movement (YSM) and former chaplain of the YCS Asia region, Rev Fr Vincent Monteiro, a priest of the Mangalore Diocese, passed away on Friday. He was 71.A native of Angelore parish, Mangaluru, he was ordained a priest in 1981 and went on to serve for over four decades in various roles. He began his priestly ministry as assistant parish priest at Kirem Church near Kinnigoli, later serving as assistant director of St Anthony’s Ashram, Jeppu.Alongside his parish responsibilities, Fr Monteiro played a significant role in the youth apostolates of the diocese. He served as director of ICYM, YCS, and YSM in Mangaluru, later as regional director, and from 1989 to 1995 as national director of YCS/YSM. In recognition of his commitment to youth ministry, he was appointed as YCS Asia Chaplain in 2004.As a parish priest, he served at Pangala (Udupi district), Kinnigoli, and finally at Bendore Church, Mangaluru. He also served as the spiritual director of the Catholic Sabha. After retirement, he resided at St Joseph Vaz Home, Jeppu. The funeral mass and rites will be held at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia, on Aug 31.
