Mysuru: In the wake of a police constable’s alleged involvement in a Rs 7.1 crore heist in Bengaluru, Mysuru City police have issued strict instructions to all personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and refrain from any unlawful activity.Following directives from DG & IGP MA Saleem, city police convened a meeting emphasising the need to combine firmness in law enforcement with politeness and dignity. Officers were reminded that overbearing behaviour, excessive use of force, abuse of authority, or disrespect toward citizens’ rights could seriously erode public trust in the police.Commissioner of police, Mysuru City, Seema Latkar, stated that officers at the level of assistant commissioner of police and police inspectors have been instructed to ensure their subordinates uphold the department’s morale. Personnel are urged to treat aggrieved parties courteously, maintain transparency, visit police stations regularly, and strictly avoid involvement in any unlawful activity. An officer explained that the guidance is a general directive for all personnel to interact politely with the public. Mysuru city has 23 police stations, including an all-women station, with each station staffed by around 60-70 officers. The move follows recent incidents, including the alleged robbery by a constable in Bengaluru and a separate case where two policemen were accused of accepting bribes for issuing an autopsy report. The instructions also stress that police personnel must maintain transparency in official dealings, attend to citizens courteously, register complaints promptly, listen patiently to grievances, avoid harsh language, refrain from demanding or accepting illegal gratification, and keep accurate, up-to-date records in station house diaries and case files.
