Udupi: A temple visit ended in tragedy near Shankaranarayana on Saturday when a sambar deer suddenly leapt onto a moving motorcycle, resulting in the death of one youth and injuries to another. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Shreyas.According to a police complaint filed by Vignesh, 19, a resident of Kavradi village in Kundapur, the accident occurred while he and his friend Shreyas were returning from the Kamalashile Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple. Shreyas was riding the motorcycle, while Vignesh was the pillion rider.At around 2.30 pm., while travelling on the Siddapur-Kamalashile road near Tarekodlu, a sambar deer suddenly jumped onto their motorcycle. The impact caused both riders to fall onto the road, resulting in injuries. Locals took the duo to the Siddapur Primary Health Centre, where they were administered first aid and advised to seek further treatment in Kundapur.Accordingly, they were then shifted by ambulance — Vignesh to a private hospital, and Shreyas to the Kundapur Govt Hospital. However, Shreyas succumbed to his injuries on the way. The deer also died in the accident. A case has been registered at the Shankaranarayana police station.
