Belagavi: In a tragic industrial accident, a young daily-wage worker lost his life after being caught in a crusher belt at the Hiranyakeshi Sugar Factory in Sankeshwar town of Hukkeri taluk on Monday.The deceased was identified as Sachin Yamananni, who joined the factory barely 10 days ago as a daily labourer. According to preliminary information, the accident occurred while Sachin was loading lime into the crusher unit. He allegedly lost balance and fell into the moving conveyor belt, suffering fatal injuries.Co-workers immediately rushed to his rescue and halted the machinery, but Sachin succumbed to his injuries on the spot. On receiving information, Sankeshwar police rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection.An investigation was launched to ascertain whether prescribed safety protocols were in place and if negligence on the part of the management contributed to the accident.The tragedy came close on the heels of the recent boiler explosion at Inamdar Sugar Factory in Savadatti taluk, which claimed the lives of 8 workers.
