Mandya: A 35-year-old woman was found dead in Varuna canal near Palahalli village of Srirangapatana here on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Mamata, a resident of Palahalli. According to police, Mamata went to the Varuna canal to wash clothes. Later, her body was discovered in the canal near a resort on the outskirts of Palahalli. The circumstances surrounding her death raised suspicion, prompting the police to treat the case as a possible murder rather than accidental drowning.Preliminary examination of the scene revealed signs of a violent struggle. The gold necklace, mangalsutra, and earrings that Mamata was reportedly wearing are reportedly missing, indicating that they may have been forcibly removed. Based on these observations, investigators suspect that unidentified miscreants may have attacked and killed the woman with the intention of robbing her of jewellery. Srirangapatana Town police have taken up the investigation.
