Koppal: A 23-year-old married woman died by suicide at Hirevadrakal village of Yelburga taluk on Thursday. The deceased is Parvati Ramesh Vaddar, and she was reportedly distressed over a man’s alleged threat to post her photos and videos on his WhatsApp status.According to police, Yamanurappa Olekar, a resident of the same village, visited the victim’s shop on Aug 31, and had some sweets, and tried to leave without paying. When Parvati requested payment, he responded in an abusive language and also fought with her. Parvati contacted her husband, Ramesh Vaddar, while Yamanurappa also called one of his relatives. During the argument, he threatened her, stating: “I have your photos and videos. I will post them on my WhatsApp status.”The accused had noticed Parvati’s husband often leaving his phone in the shop even when he stepped out. On one such occasion, Yamanurappa made a video call to that phone. When Parvati answered the call, Yamanurappa took a screenshot of the call, said sources.Following the threat, Parvati feared for her reputation, and wrote a suicide note on Sept 3 night that read: “Yamanurappa Olekar and Mudiraj Olekar threatened to share my video. They have also posted my photo on their WhatsApp status. Fearing for my honour, I’m taking my life.” She was later found hanging at her house with the suicide note next to her, police said.Ramesh has lodged a complaint against Yamanurappa and Mudiraj at Bevur police station.
