Kalaburagi: A 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband’s brother and other relatives after being beaten with a neem stick, as they claimed she was possessed by a devil, in Kalaburagi district.Muktabai, wife of Giddeppa from Murum village in Maharashtra near Aland in Kalaburagi district, is the deceased. She died at GIMS hospital in Kalaburagi on Saturday evening.Muktabai, originally from Aland town in Kalaburagi district, was married to Giddeppa from Murum, a border village of Maharashtra, 10 years ago. The couple has a son. A few days ago, Muktabai is said to have complained of dizziness, which Giddeppa’s brother attributed to her being possessed by a devil. He insisted that she needed to be treated by being hit with a neem stick, which they did for a couple of days.Later, her parents were informed, and they took Muktabai to GIMS, where she was admitted and subsequently died. A case was registered at Brahmapur police station in Kalaburagi city and later transferred to Murum police station in Maharashtra, said Aland PI Saranabasappa Kodla. The police have taken three persons into their custody, said Muktabai’s father Neelakanth.
