Woman cuts short honeymoon trip, attempts suicide in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old woman who had returned early from her honeymoon following a dispute with her husband allegedly attempted to take her life at her parents’ house in B Channasandra, Ramamurthynagar, Wednesday night.The woman, identified as Ganavi S, was found unconscious in her bedroom and was immediately rushed to hospital, where her condition is reported to be critical, police said.Based on a complaint filed by her father, Shashikumar, Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case of dowry harassment against Ganavi’s husband, Sooraj, and his family members, residents of Vidyaranyapura.In his complaint, Shashikumar alleged that his daughter was subjected to harassment over dowry soon after her marriage on October 29. “As requested by the groom’s family, we hosted the wedding reception at Palace Grounds. However, shortly after the marriage, my daughter began facing harassment for dowry,” he stated.According to the complaint, the couple had travelled to Sri Lanka last week for a 10-day honeymoon, during which the alleged harassment continued. Distressed by the situation, Ganavi reportedly cut short the trip and returned to Bengaluru Sunday, after which she stayed at her parental home.Police officials said they are investigating the allegations and have initiated legal proceedings.
