Bengaluru: A 40-year-old woman from Bagalkote was arrested by Kumaraswamy Layout police for stealing around 200gm of gold ornaments from the residence of her friend’s relatives in Isro Layout.The theft took place in the house of Basavaraj Ningappa Pashupatihal, a private firm employee whose wife passed away a few months ago. Basavaraj got his house painted on June 1 and his mother-in-law, Shobha Teggi, along with her friend Kasturi visited his house the same night. Shobha and Kasturi cleaned a room in which Basavaraj had kept around 200 grams of gold ornaments in a bag and slept in the same room. The next day, they cleaned the rest of the house. In the evening, Kasturi’s husband visited them and then, the three left the house. Basavaraj also left for his native place Gadag and returned on June 6 to find the gold ornaments missing. But he filed a complaint only on June 16. Inspector R Jagadeesh and his team detained Kasturi on Aug 1 from her house in Mudhol taluk and she confessed to the crime. Her husband gave 114 grams of gold ornaments, worth Rs 10 lakh, to police. Efforts are on to recover the rest. Habitual Burglar HeldIn another case, Girinagar police arrested a habitual offender who burgled a photographer Chikkegowda DR’s house in New BDA Layout on May 29 and stole 95 grams of gold ornaments, worth Rs 8 lakh. The police arrested Syed Ahmed J (42), a resident of Bangarpet, and recovered 117 grams of gold worth over Rs 10 lakh from him. Ahmed is involved in more than 30 cases and police said they solved two cases with his arrest. Efforts are on to nab his associates.
