Mysuru: The city’s white-topping work of 12 arterial roads is expected to start after the Dasara celebrations. Once completed, these works are expected to give a facelift to the city, which is currently struggling with a pothole-filled road network. The state govt had announced the project during the MM Hills cabinet meeting held in April 2025, and CM Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone recently. To ensure that tourists will not face any inconvenience, state govt has decided to take up the road upgradation works only after Dasara, which will be completed in the first week of Oct. The state govt announced white topping of a 46.9-km stretch of roads in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 393.4 crore. The major roads connecting the city neighbourhoods with the central business district have been selected for the upgrade. The roads selected include JLB Road, Bogadi-Hunsur Road, Mysuru-Bengaluru Road, Irwin Road, Mahadevapura Road, Hardinge Circle, Manandawadi Road, Kukkarahalli Lake Junction, and Nazarabad-Vani Vilas Road. These are the major roads that connect the city neighbourhoods with important landmarks.Sources said the public works department is likely to take up the works after Dasara.Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif announced the appointment of a superintendent engineer to coordinate with the PWD to ensure that there will not be any inconvenience to the public during the work.According to the authorities, these white-topped roads will ensure that there will not be a requirement for regular repair works for at least 25 to 30 years. As dedicated facilities will be provided for drainage, water pipes, and other service providers, there will not be any road cuts, which is one of the major reasons for poor condition of roads.During his first tenure, CM Siddaramaiah released grants to convert the Dasara procession route into a concrete road. This road is still in very good condition. Six years ago, Chamaraja Double Road and part of Sayyaji Rao Road in the heart of the city were also converted into concrete roads.
