Belagavi: In a significant administrative action, deputy commissioner Mohammad Roshan suspended Sutagatti village accountant Neela Murgod pending a departmental inquiry, for wrongly declaring a living farmer dead in govt records.The village accountant erroneously issued death certificates on July 8, 2021, for Irappa Nagappa Abbai,53, and his son Basavaraj,24. Irappa approached the authorities only to register the death of his son, but due to the official’s lapse, death certificates were issued in the names of both the father and son.In his suspension order, the deputy commissioner noted that the village accountant not only committed a grave error by issuing incorrect death certificates, but also failed to take timely corrective action even after the mistake came to her notice. Such negligence, the order stated, amounted to serious misconduct and reflected a lack of responsibility in discharging official duties.The suspension will remain in force until the completion of the departmental inquiry into the matter.
