Vijayapura: Relentless efforts by police have resulted in the arrest of a murder accused who had been absconding for the last 11 years.Vijayapura Rural police succeeded in nabbing Sunil Matabadal Yadav, who was accused No. 4 in a murder case and was at large. ASI AI Indikar and head constable NS Yalladagi attached to Vijayapura Rural police station traced Sunil to Banda town in Uttar Pradesh and arrested him on Dec 30, 2025. He has been produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.The CaseOne Laxman, son of Amarsingh, who was sleeping in the cabin of his truck near Gandhi Dhaba on the Vijayapura-Solapur national highway, was murdered on the night of July 16, 2014. The killers had fled with Rs 45,000 cash and a cell phone set.Based on a complaint from Gujratsingh Chansingh of Indore Prabhapuri, Madhya Pradesh, Vijayapura Rural police led by circle inspector BP Chandrashekhar had registered a case and had started an investigation. They had nabbed three persons-Vimalkumar Jayaprakash Tiwari, Vinay Vasudev Shukla and Vineet alias Vivek Vasudev Shukla- while the fourth accused, Sunil was absconding.The chargesheet had been filed at the third additional district and sessions court in Vijayapura and after the trial, the court had acquitted Vimalkumar and Vinay while it had convicted Vineet Shukla to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on him on April 28, 2015. Since Sunil was missing, a split chargesheet had been filed. The court had issued a probation notice on Sunil.
