Mysuru: Lakhs of litres of treated Cauvery water were wasted after a valve malfunction on Vivekananda Road in Yadavagiri during the early hours of Tuesday, leading to the collapse of a hotel’s retaining wall and flooding its premises.According to sources, the incident occurred around 4am. The pressure of the water was so intense that a nearly 30-foot stretch of the retaining wall collapsed, allowing water to gush into the hotel and inundate the basement. “Water seeped into the floor, causing extensive damage. We suffered losses running into lakhs,” hotel staff said.
Activist Bhamy V Shenoy, who is from Yadavagiri, said, “We do not know how such an incident could have happened.”Officials of Vani Vilas Water Works, the water-supplying arm of MCC, stated that an assessment of the damage to the hotel would be conducted and a report will be submitted to the civic body. “The water leak was brought under control,” they said.
