Mysuru: Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore (UoM), convened annual sports meeting of constituent and affiliated colleges sports representatives at its office on Friday, to discuss this year’s sports activities. The meeting was, however, dominated by discussions on budgetary constraints rather than sporting schedules. Participants expressed concern that with limited funds, the university could hardly support 10 sporting events, including women’s events, which they termed highly inadequate.Physical education directors and sports representatives noted that instead of discussing dates for team selections or finalising the annual sports calendar, deliberations revolved solely around the demand to enhance the budget. They also stressed on the need to decide which teams would represent UoM in inter-university competitions.Following the meeting, delegates marched to Crawford Hall and submitted a memorandum to the registrar MK Savitha, urging the university to increase the allocation. They demanded that, like last year, more than 40 teams must be sent for inter-university tournaments. Although they sought to meet V-C Prof NK Lokanath, he was not available. He assured to meet them on Saturday or Monday to discuss the issue.
