Unkal lake set to add more adventure sports facilities

Hubballi: The scenic Unkal lake in Hubballi has transformed into an emerging adventure destination for visitors. Once heavily weed-infested, the lake was partially rejuvenated through works undertaken under the Smart City project.The development has helped attract tourists, with the installation of various sports and recreational equipment. For the New Year, authorities are adding more fun and adventure facilities catering to children and the elderly. Planned additions include a zipline, bicycles, and other recreational options to enhance the lake’s appeal.Sports adventures have been launched. Om Water Sports was given the contract for the functioning of water sports in the lake. Motorboats, pedal boats, kayaking, jet skis, and other boats are available in the lake for recreation. Many people are enjoying the sports adventure. An environment conducive to spending the entire day is being created for those who visit Unkal lake for a day’s excursion. There are no such tourist destinations near Hubballi. The HDMC has the intention to make the lake a tourist and adventure destination.Vijaykumar R, HDMC’s superintendent engineer, told TOI: “HDMC’s aim is to transform Unkal lake into a tourist destination. Zipline, cycles, miniature train, and other sports equipment will be added to the premises. Unkal lake will be transformed into an adventure destination in Jan 2026,” he added.Raju Khilare, proprietor of Om Water Sports, said that a sky cycling facility is being installed over the water body. “This will give the riders a thrilling experience. There will be a miniature train, horse-drawn carriages, and battery cars. Five more activities are likely to be added. The lake, which used to be a mere water attraction, can now be seen as an adventure destination. Some new adventure sports equipment is being installed for children and adults for the New Year. Tourists and locals will come to Unkal Lake and celebrate,” he expressed.
