Belagavi: Union minister of state for railways, V Somanna, wrote a letter to the state govt demanding proper maintenance of the Kittur Fort and to declare the tomb of Rani Channamma at Bailhongal as a national memorial.Somanna demanded that the state govt properly maintain Kittur State Fort . He also requested that the Kittur Development Authority be given more powers, the Rani Channamma tomb in Bailhongal be developed and declared a national monument, and a book on the life and achievements of Rani Channamma be published in all Indian languages.He wrote a letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah in this regard and reminded him that the Karnataka state govt needs to take up the task of introducing the achievements of the first freedom fighter, Rani Channamma, and the history of Kittur to the next generation with more dedication.Somanna wrote to the chief minister that the 201st year of victory over the British by Kittur Rani Channamma was celebrated on Thursday at the Prerana Sthal of the Parliament in New Delhi, like last year. On this occasion, he expressed great pride that the most revered seers of the country, the people’s representatives, and the Kannadigas of Delhi participated and contributed to the success of the victory of Rani Channamma.Karnataka state govt should teach youth about the achievements of freedom fighter Rani Channamma and the history of Kittur, he demanded.
