Yadgir: Following heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, a substantial amount of water was released from the Narayanpur reservoir into the Krishna River. The bridge at Kollur village in Shahapur taluk, which connects Shahapur and Devadurga, is nearing submergence, prompting precautionary measures that have halted traffic on the bridge since Thursday.Yadgir DC Harshal Boyar visited the bridge and directed officials to stop vehicle movement immediately. He also instructed the Devadurga tahsildar to prevent vehicles from entering their side towards Shahapur. Residents wishing to travel to Raichuru may use the Tinthani bridge instead of the Kollur bridge between Raichuru and Yadgir districts, which will increase the distance by up to 40km.Although the river has not yet flowed over the bridge, water has almost reached its level. Movement of both heavy and small vehicles was completely stopped. To strictly enforce the traffic stoppage at night, police personnel will be deployed at the bridge, said Shahapur CPI Saahebgouda Patil.Since Wednesday afternoon, following the downpour in Maharashtra, approximately 2.6 lakh cusecs of water was released into the Krishna River from the Narayanpur reservoir, a process that will continue until floodwaters in Maharashtra subside. Low-lying areas of the river basin were fully inundated. Crops such as paddy, cotton, chillies, and others grown in Shahapur and Surpur taluks in Yadgir district were destroyed. Farmers in the Krishna River basin removed their pump sets installed beside the river to irrigate their crops.
