Trading investment scam: Man from Mysuru duped of Rs 1.8cr

Mysuru: After a woman teacher fell victim to a parcel scam and lost Rs 11.7 lakh, a self-employed man from Mysuru city was duped of Rs 1.8 crore by cybercrooks who tricked him into investing in a fake trading investment scam.In a span of 19 days (from Dec 2 to 20), the victim, who is in his 50s, was lured into the investment through a WhatsApp message and then persuaded to invest in trading on a specific platform, promising him higher returns in quick time.In his complaint, the victim claimed that the tricksters created a WhatsApp group, claiming they would train members in share market trading and help them earn extraordinary profits. He was introduced to a woman claiming to be a representative of the trading platform.Later, the victim was made to believe that a foreign institution could not maintain bank accounts in India and, therefore, funds must be deposited into accounts of various local companies. Based on these representations, the victim transferred money through RTGS to various accounts, police said.
