Toddler survives attack by pack of stray dogs in Belagavi

Belagavi: In a shocking and distressing incident, a 2-year-old was grievously injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in the Azad Nagar area of Belagavi on Sunday afternoon. The injured child is Ahmed Ramiz Bisty,2.According to eyewitnesses, Ahmed was playing in a narrow lane near his residence when 7 to 8 stray dogs suddenly pounced on him. The dogs dragged the toddler and bit him repeatedly, inflicting multiple severe injuries across his body. The brutal attack sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.Hearing the child’s cries, local residents rushed to the spot, managed to chase away the dogs, and rescued him. The injured toddler was immediately shifted to a private hospital in the city, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors described his condition as serious but stable. The incident triggered widespread fear and anger among residents of Azad Nagar.Locals allege that the stray dog menace in Belagavi city and its suburbs intensified over the past several months, with little effective intervention from civic authorities. Parents, students, women, and elderly residents expressed concern over their safety, stating that incidents of dog bites were reportedly on the rise in several areas. While the Belagavi City Corporation claims to have taken measures to control the stray dog population, residents contend that these efforts failed to produce tangible results. The growing number of attacks raised serious questions about public safety and administrative accountability. In the wake of this incident, citizens strongly urged the district administration and civic body to take immediate and effective steps to address the stray dog problem. They warned that unless concrete and sustained measures were implemented without delay, such tragic and preventable incidents might continue, placing innocent lives—especially those of children—at grave risk.
