Madikeri: Kodagu police have launched a probe after three men were caught transporting the body of a woman in the backseat of a car just past midnight on Friday. The body of the woman, identified as Nanki Devi, 45, from Haryana, was discovered while forest department personnel were conducting a routine inspection at the Lingapur forest check post in Maldare village. K Ramarajan, the superintendent of police, Kodagu, told TOI three persons, including the woman’s husband, were detained and the body was moved to Madikeri hospital for a postmortem. It is being suspected that the woman had died by suicide at her rented accommodation in Mysuru’s Metagalli area. Police said preliminary investigation revealed Nanki lived with her husband Rakesh Kumar, 43, and the two men — Satvir Chauhan, 33, and Vikas, 32 — at their rented accommodation in Metagalli. They were all from Haryana. The car in which they were travelling, belonged to one of their friends in Mysuru. Police have seized the vehicle. During interrogation, Rakesh claimed he was taking his wife’s body to Madikeri hospital, but police suspect the men were on their way to dispose it off. All three men worked as carpenters in Mysuru. They said when Rakesh returned home later that night, he found the door locked. After breaking it open, he discovered Nanki hanging in her room.
