Thief breaks into Siddapur house, steals gold jewellery worth over Rs 20L

Madikeri: A thief broke into a house at Siddapur in Kodagu district and decamped with gold jewellery worth over Rs 20 lakh, police said.The incident occurred at the residence of BG Chinnappa on Mysuru Road in Siddapur on Wednesday night. According to police, Chinnappa and his wife had dinner and went to sleep late. Around 3.30am, Chinnappa’s wife raised an alarm after hearing a noise. Chinnappa, who was sleeping in another room, rushed to her aid.By then, the miscreant had broken open a wardrobe and stolen around 150 grams of gold jewellery, including a pearl necklace, valued at more than Rs 20 lakh. The thief also took Rs 5,000 in cash.Police said the accused entered the house from the backside through a toilet window and had covered his face with a cloth. A black hat and a pair of shoes, believed to have been left behind by the thief, were found at the spot.ASP Dinesh Kumar and Madikeri DSP Suraj visited the scene and inspected the house.
