Teachers face a new challenge on last day of census

Mysuru: On the final day of the socio-educational survey, the teachers who served as the enumerators faced a new challenge. They were asked to call up the households they visited to ensure that details of the children were also added to the survey. This request came after findings revealed that in many households, parents didn’t share the details of their minor children during the door-to-door survey.According to several teachers, during the survey, many families declined to share the details of their children. As many children lacked Aadhaar cards, they weren’t forced to provide the information. “However, on Saturday, we were asked to speak to the families again and include the details of the children,” enumerators claimed.“During the survey, most of the children were out of their houses due to various reasons, including vacation. So, we could not confirm,” a teacher said. “Data related to the children is in the school and anganavadis with their Aadhaar number. The officials can get it directly from there. But teachers were given responsibility on the final day,” allege enumerators.According to sources in the district teachers’ association in Mysuru, around 70,000 family heads didn’t disclose their children’s details. “At many houses, family heads didn’t share the details of their children who migrated to other cities or villages for various reasons. But now the teachers are asked to verify and update the details,” an office bearer said. “We concluded the census on Saturday. We will return to the schools on Oct 23. There is no question of continuing the survey further,” said a member of the district teachers’ association.
