Hubballi: South Western Railway (SWR) recorded an outstanding performance in Aug 2025, achieving a gross revenue of Rs 755 crore and registering its best-ever August originating freight loading of 4.2 MT (metric tonnes).SWR stated in a press release that passenger earnings grew to Rs 305 crore with 14.5 million passengers carried, while freight earnings surged to Rs 418 crore, supported by record loading of commodities such as iron ore, steel, coal, RMSP, fertiliser, containers, and foodgrains. Additional contributions came from Rs 24 crore in other coaching services, Rs 13.5 crore in parcel traffic, and Rs 8.3 crore from sundry earnings, reflecting the zone’s balanced growth across both core and ancillary segments.Passenger earnings showed steady growth, rising from Rs 264 crore in Aug 2024 to Rs 304.5 crore in Aug 2025, with passenger numbers increasing from 13.4 million to 14.5 million, underscoring improved connectivity and customer confidence.Freight earnings continued to lead the performance, contributing Rs 418 crore during Aug 2025 compared to Rs 323 crore in Aug 2024. On the loading front, SWR achieved its best-ever Aug performance of 4.2 MT, registering a 26.3% growth over last year’s 3.3 MT.Commodity-wise, iron ore reached 1.6 MT (15.5% growth), steel rose to 0.9 MT (70.5% growth), coal touched 0.7 MT (22% growth), and RMSP more than doubled to 0.2 MT (108% growth). Fertiliser loading increased to 0.1 MT (7% growth), containers rose to 0.09 MT (31.3% growth), while 0.01 MT of foodgrains was loaded against nil last year. Additionally, SWR handled 0.1 MT of mineral oil, 0.3 MT of cement, and 0.2 MT of balance other goods.Other revenue streams further strengthened performance. SWR earned Rs 24 crore from other coaching, Rs 13.5 crore from parcel services, and Rs 8.3 crore from sundry earnings. Ticket checking drives generated Rs 4.1 crore, and Rs 0.5 crore from penalties, while commercial sundry revenue contributed Rs 3.1 crore.Mukul Saran Mathur, general manager, SWR, congratulated the officers and staff for their dedicated efforts in delivering record-breaking results in both passenger and freight sectors.
