Koppal: A Swiss Christian has attracted attention for placing a Ganesha idol in the Muslim home he is renting. After seven years of following Hindu rituals, Martin from central Switzerland arrived in the Anegundi village in Koppal district a year ago to escape job pressure, leaving behind his wife and two children. He rented a home from Dastagiri Mahebub, located next to the Anjaneya Temple on Chintamani Road, and gradually integrated with the local community.Recently, he chose to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi for the first time. Despite the house owner being Muslim, he sought and obtained approval from Dastagiri Mahebub to install a Ganesha idol. His act was supported by several Muslim youth from Anegundi.“The rituals, chanting, penance, culture, and practices of Hinduism not only brought me peace but also inspired me. Most importantly, chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ gives me tranquillity,” Martin said, appreciating the Muslim owner’s support.A local woman, Uma, informed him about the significance of the Ganesha festival. “Motivated by her explanation, I decided to set up a Ganesha idol. A man named Pawan assisted in the installation ceremony. I am thrilled to celebrate the Ganesha festival,” he shared.“Upon arriving from Switzerland, I encountered a variety of challenges and difficulties. However, with the help and cooperation of the local people, all those issues were resolved, and I am happy now. The reason for this joy is Ganesh. Consequently, I am celebrating the Ganesha festival, which has eased all my worries,” Martin happily said.In a similar incident, Muslim youth in Alwandi village, Koppal taluk, collaborated with Hindu youth to conduct a special puja and abhisheka for the Ganesha idol at the Vijaya Ganapati temple on Bazaar Road in the village on Wednesday.A community feeding was organised, involving youth from both Hindu and Muslim communities. The programme has been conducted for many years by the Geleyara Balaga of the village.
