'Stones pelted': Communal clashes during Ganesh immersion in Karnataka's Mandya; forces deployed
Tension flared in Maddur, Mandya district of Karnataka

NEW DELHI: Tension flared in Maddur, Mandya district of Karnataka, after clashes broke out during a Ganesh idol immersion procession on Sunday. Police said the violence began in Ram Rahim Nagar when stones were allegedly thrown at the procession by members of another community. Superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi rushed to the scene as the situation grew volatile. Additional police forces have been deployed and prohibitory orders imposed in the town to prevent further unrest. Officials confirmed that the immersion was eventually carried out under heavy security. A large number of personnel have been stationed in sensitive areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and warned against the spread of rumours. The district administration appealed to both communities to cooperate with law enforcement to restore peace.
