Chikkamagaluru: JD(S) MLC SL Bhoje Gowda said sports contribute positively to mental and physical health. He was speaking at the inauguration of the district-level sports meet for govt employees, organised by the district administration, ZP, youth empowerment and sports department, and district govt employees’ association at the Subhash Chandra Bose district stadium. He emphasised the importance of daily walking and yoga to relieve stress.Participating in sports helps strengthen the body and alleviate stress, he noted. Gowda also urged the govt to abandon the New Pension Scheme and continue with the Old Pension System (OPS) for govt employees to ensure a comfortable retirement life.
Deputy commissioner NM Nagaraj called for organising sports meets for govt employees who work under constant stress, and encouraged them to set aside daily tasks and participate in sports without being affected by winning or losing. HS Keerthan, CEO, was present.Chikkamagaluru MLA HD Thammaiah said that health is a matter of great fortune for humans, which can be achieved by taking part in sports. He said that he urged the CM to continue the OPS for govt employees and promised to address the issue again in the legislative assembly. He announced a contribution of Rs 10 lakh for the community hall’s construction, and promised of further support.Govt employees, who participated in national-level sports meet, were honoured.
