Mangaluru: Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) distributed 3,472 pairs of desks and benches to 418 schools.Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade inaugurated the distribution of desks and benches to 418 schools in Dharmasthala under the Jnanadeepa Education Programme, which is aimed at providing basic facilities to schools across Karnataka.Under the programme of the SKDRDP, basic facilities such as classrooms, playgrounds, drinking water, toilets, auditoriums, and teaching materials are provided to encourage schools. A total Rs 47.7 crore was allocated for this purpose so far, said Heggade, after inaugurating the programme on Thursday.The desks and benches will be provided to 418 schools in Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Tumakuru and Kolar districts. In the current academic year, 1,074 honorary teachers were also appointed to schools. So far, 75,518 pairs of desks and benches were distributed to 11,621 schools in the state, with an allocation of Rs 28.6 crore, he informed.
