Bengaluru: A girl on her way to school with her mother and younger sister was crushed to death by a BMTC bus near Kogilu Cross, Yelahanka, Thursday morning, a day before her 11th birthday.Tanvi Krishna would have turned 11 on Aug 22. Her mother, Harshitha (33), a homemaker, and five-year-old sister, Kruthi Krishna, survived with minor injuries. Harshitha was taking her daughters to their school on Kogilu Main Road in Srinivasapura on her scooter, with Kruthi sitting in the middle and Tanvi at the back. Yelahanka traffic police said the accident occurred at around 8.20am. BWSSB is carrying out drainage cleaning work on the stretch, and mud and other waste removed from the drainage chamber were dumped on the roadside. The BMTC bus hit the two-wheeler from the side, and the woman and her daughters fell on the right side of the road. Tanvi rolled down and came under the left rear wheel of the bus, which ran over her head. Tanvi sustained a severe head injury and died on the spot. A car’s dash camera captured the woman riding with her two children adjacent to the bus in the same direction, and the CCTV camera installed in the BMTC bus also captured her. A senior police officer said both the cameras captured footage before and after the incident. Since the bus and scooter were riding parallel to each other, there is no footage to ascertain how exactly the accident happened. Tanvi’s body was handed over to her family, which hails from Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapura district, after a post-mortem. The police have registered a case against the BMTC bus driver based on Harshitha’s complaint, and the driver was served notice. However, a BMTC statement on the accident seemed to absolve its driver of any wrongdoing. In the statement, it said that on reviewing the CCTV footage from the bus, it was observed that at 8.18am, the rider of the two-wheeler, carrying two children, entered the main road. Due to road construction and a stationary two-wheeler ahead, the scooterist applied brakes suddenly, lost control, and fell, with the child falling under the rear left wheel of the bus.
