Mangaluru: The bifurcation of Mangalore University has left several guest faculty and contractual staff, who were earlier part of MU and are now under Kodagu University, facing hardship. Dozens of them, recruited by MU, have not been paid for months and are now demanding their pending salaries.According to contractual staff and guest faculty of undergraduate courses, they have not been paid for the past two to three months. From this academic year, around 26 undergraduate colleges, including Field Marshal KM Cariappa College in Madikeri, which were earlier under Mangalore University, have come under Kodagu University.KC Mahadesha, syndicate member of Mangalore University, said, “We have asked MU to disburse the pending salaries at the earliest. We have also instructed them to clear any other salary arrears from previous years,” he told TOI.After the bifurcation, Mangalore University continued to be associated with Kodagu for PG courses until the academic year 2023-24 and for UG courses until 2024-25. “With the completion of the final UG courses last academic year (2024-25), all 26 UG colleges are now fully under Kodagu University. Henceforth, all salaries will be paid through Kodagu University,” a source added. When contacted, Y Sangappa, finance officer of Mangalore University, said that salaries for a few staff members have been pending since May. “We will clear them at the earliest, including those of staff from Kodagu,” he said.
