Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada SP Arun K has appealed to people to reject fake and provocative messages on social media. Over the past three months, the district has witnessed individuals, including miscreants, educated ones, and organisers, sharing fake news, messages, and posts that breach peace in society. This development has brought a bad reputation to the district, the SP stated.Referring to six cases registered at various police stations in the district recently against such fake and provocative messages, the SP noted that efforts are being made to provoke people to engage in anti-social activities, which would lead to a collapse in law and order. Several cases were already registered against those who engaged in sharing such fake news that could disturb harmony and peace in society, the SP said.“People of the district should not trust fake or provocative messages. Preventing the spread of such fake news is possible only when people ignore those individuals or organisations behind it. Hence, verify the facts before sharing messages or posts on social media. It is essential to take action against those who are spreading fake news intentionally in the district,” the SP added.
