Hubballi: Heavy rains over the last three months, had damaged 494 classrooms across 147 schools in the district. The panchayat raj engineering wing has begun the repair work, costing Rs 4.5 crore. Leaky roofs, cracked slabs, and waterlogged classrooms disrupted the classes. The work is expected to be completed in a month.Due to rainfall from May to July, most of the schools’ roof has been leaking. Some schools have concrete slabs that are leaking, with water entering through the windows and walls. However, parents are concerned that most of the class rooms in the district need to be repaired, which will adversely affect the students’ education. The department has prepared a list and started the repair works of schools.DDPI Shankmukh Swamy Keladimath told TOI that the repair works are being carried out by the Panchayat Raj engineering wing. Schools were damaged due to rainfall in the last three months. After that, a list of schools was prepared that require repairs. Grants of about Rs 4.5 crore has been released to the Panchayat Raj engineering department to take up the repair work. The work is expected to be completed in a month, he assured.Ningappa Hadapad, SDMC President Govt HPS Managundi said, “Three classrooms have been damaged. All the classrooms are leaking due to heavy rain. We have requested the department to include the damaged rooms in the repair work. The classrooms should be repaired soon otherwise parents will be fearful,” he said.
