Bengaluru: City police arrested a 35-year-old ragpicker on charges of strangling the six-year-old daughter of his neighbour to death over personal rivalry in Nallurahalli, Whitefield, Tuesday. Police arrested the accused, Yusuf Khan, in Odisha.A team of Whitefield police discovered Khan was on a train heading to Bhubaneswar. They detained Khan when his train stopped at Cuttack railway station Wednesday. “With the help of a transit warrant issued by a local court there, the team, along with Khan, is heading back to the city. Since no direct trains to Bengaluru were available, the team reached Hyderabad Thursday night. From there, they will come to the city,” a senior police officer said. Khan is charged with murdering Shanaz Khatu, the daughter of his neighbour Inzamul Sheik. The accused and the victim’s family belong to West Bengal.A quick interrogation revealed Khan was upset with Khatu’s mother for fighting with him regularly. “The fights related to domestic issues like who should collect the drinking water first, who should occupy the front yard of their tiny houses, and who should store scrap materials. Also, professional rivalry added to the discord between the two families, leading to the murder of the girl,” an officer said.
