Mysuru: With the city gearing up to usher in the New Year 2026, Mysuru City police set 1am on Jan 1 as a deadline for celebrations in hotels, clubs and resorts. The owners were instructed to obtain police permission to organise events. Entry to Chamundi Hill is restricted after 9pm.The focus, police said, is on protecting the public, with special emphasis on the safety of women and children, while preventing any untoward incidents during the festivities. As part of the arrangements, special task forces headed by police inspectors were formed at every police station. These teams will act firmly against harassment, indecent behaviour or mischief carried out in the name of New Year celebrations, and legal action will be taken against offenders. For women’s safety, the Pink Garuda (Chamundi Force), comprising women police officers and staff, will be on active patrol across sensitive and crowded areas. Canine squads, anti-sabotage teams and an expanded CCTV surveillance network will monitor key locations to maintain law and order. Traffic regulation will be a major priority, with quick-response teams deployed citywide to curb wheeling, drag racing, drunken driving and the use of modified exhausts that create excessive noise. Multiple checkpoints will function round the clock, supported by 112 emergency vehicles and highway patrol units. Noise levels must remain within permissible limits, and programmes involving obscenity, drugs or gambling are strictly banned. Special restrictions will be enforced on Chamundi Hill, with entry regulated and the public required to vacate the area by 9pm.Police urged citizens to cooperate and report emergencies through 112, according to a release from the office of the commissioner of police.
