Police seize 106kg of ganja worth Rs 53 lakh in Puttur

Mangaluru: Police sub-inspector of Puttur Rural police station, along with staff, intercepted the vehicles for inspection at Sajankadi in Paduvannur village, Puttur taluk, based on credible information received on Monday evening about ganja being transported in a car and a goods vehicle.On questioning, the driver of the car identified himself as Rafiq P, 37, a resident of Charmadi village, Belthangady taluk. Suspecting his behaviour, police searched the car and found a plastic cover containing a bundle weighing about 100g, consisting of leaves, flowers and buds resembling ganja. The driver of the goods vehicle was identified as Abdul Sadiq, 37, also a resident of Charmadi village, Belthangady taluk. Upon inspection of the vehicle, police recovered 73 bundles of ganja weighing approximately 106kg. The estimated value of the seized ganja is around Rs 53 lakh. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the ganja was being transported for sale in Kerala, Mangaluru, and various parts of the Dakshina Kannada district. Police seized the ganja, the vehicles used for transportation, and two mobile phones found in the possession of the accused, and took the accused into custody for further legal action.A case was registered at Puttur Rural police station under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act. The operation was carried out by a team led by Puttur Rural police sub-inspector Gunapala J.
