Pic: Govt school in Amaragol, Hubballi, has been given the Best PM Shri School awardHubballi: The govt-run PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) in Amaragol, Hubballi, was awarded Best PM SHRI School for 2025-26 by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK). The school was recognised for its exceptional performance, dedication, and commitment to quality education, offering modern facilities and a nurturing learning environment.The school, established in 1865, underwent a major transformation into a hi-tech model institution under the Union govt’s PM SHRI scheme. Previously lacking in infrastructure, the school now boasts digital learning tools, sports equipment, and desktops. The school also introduced a UKG class last year, which is running at full strength. Currently, 446 students are enrolled, benefiting from the enhanced facilities. The revamped school has caught the attention of the local community. The award was presented by MLA Mahesh Tenginakai in Dharwad.Basavaraj Bommannawadi, in-charge head master of the school, said that the 160-year-old school is under a 5-year plan, where the Union govt provides funds for its development for five years. The scheme is also encouraging sports by providing facilities to play table tennis, volleyball, basketball, kho-kho, and kabaddi games, etc. Children from surrounding areas such as Navanagar and Gamanagatti are enrolled in the school. Children of the school are enjoying all the facilities, he added.UY Bommakkanavar, BEO of Hubballi Rural said the state Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) chose this school for the best school award. “This school has undergone a transformation with many facilities, benefiting the children. Children of this school are actively participating in many events,” he said.Assistant teacher BB Sullad said they are happy about the best school award. “With this, much more work will be done. The scheme was approved by the Cabinet on Sept 7, 2022. Under the scheme, the govt schools will be strengthened and emerge as model schools over a period of time, and also lead to other schools in the neighbourhood. It provides high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive, and joyful school environment. Every year, new facilities will be added. PM SHRI scheme has benefited all children of the school,” he added.
