Mysuru city police heighten patrolling in industrial areas after NCB search

Mysuru: Following a search by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at a phenyl manufacturing unit in north Mysuru, Mysuru city police have heightened patrolling in industrial areas to keep tabs on activities in and around the area.Jurisdiction police will focus on defunct units and premises that could be misused for illegal activities. Officers said the proposed drive would involve searches and verification in industrial areas to ensure no manufacturing or storage of narcotic substances was taking place under the cover of legitimate operations.

A day after the NCB action, Mysuru city police convened a meeting on Thursday, with industrial unit owners and representatives at a convention hall near Sankranthi Circle, where police asked industry stakeholders to remain alert and conduct internal checks to ensure their premises were not being used for unlawful activities, including the storage of suspicious materials or unauthorised production.Officials indicated that cooperation from industry owners would be crucial for effective enforcement, particularly in identifying abandoned or underutilised facilities that could be exploited.Police commissioner Seema Latkar informed TOI that owners and representatives of 194 manufacturing units in Hebbal industrial area attended the meeting. “They were told to keep a tab on their workers, especially those from outstation, and to check their antecedents before employing them. The owners of industries were strictly told to check the activities of tenants in case they contracted out management. The firms were told to obtain NOCs from respective departments and inform police about any suspicious activities in their neighbourhood.Police said the objective was to deter misuse of industrial infrastructure and reassure the public that enforcement agencies were acting proactively.A day after NCB officials from New Delhi searched a phenyl manufacturing unit in Hebbal Industrial Area in connection with an ongoing case, city police claimed the team returned. Seema also told TOI that the NCB team searched the phenyl unit premises in north Mysuru and returned after informing the proprietor that he may start operations. The top cop said there was no materials seized from the unit.
