Karnataka: Police arrested absconding accused; remanded to 4 days judicial custody

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru East Police have arrested an absconding accused in connection with a case registered in 2016. The accused has been identified as Haneef, also known as Abdul Haneef, from Kumble in Kasaragod district, Kerala.City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated on Saturday that the Mangaluru East Police had registered a case under sections 323, 324, 354, and 149 of the IPC against the accused. The case was under trial before the Sixth JMFC Court, Mangaluru. However, Haneef failed to appear before the court despite warrants being issued nine times over the past year.The accused had absconded and violated the bail conditions laid down by the court. Under Section 269 of the BNS, efforts continued to trace him.The warrant staff of Mangaluru East Police Station, including ASI Machendranath Jogi and Head Constable Narappa KB, arrested Haneef in Kumble and produced him before the court, which remanded him to four days of judicial custody.
