Mandya club raided in late-night op, 30 detained

Mandya: Acting on specific information about illegal gambling activities, the Mandya Rural police conducted a late-night raid on a club located on the outskirts of the city.The operation, which started on Monday night, continued into the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in the detention of 30 individuals allegedly involved in unlawful betting.The raid was conducted under the direct instruction of Mandya superintendent of police VJ Shobharani. Police said the accused were caught red-handed while engaging in the prohibited gambling game Andar-Bahar.During the operation, police seized cash amounting to Rs 10.7 lakh, believed to be proceeds from illegal gambling. In addition, materials used for gambling activity were also confiscated. Due to the swift and coordinated action by the police team, none of the suspects managed to escape. Following the raid, the club premises was seized.Speaking to TOI, Shobharani said that complaints were received about non-members from various locations, including Bengaluru and Mysuru, frequently visiting the Agri Club for gambling purposes. “Based on this information, our team conducted the raid on Monday night, which continued until early Tuesday morning. During the raid, Rs 10.7 lakh in cash was seized and 30 persons were arrested,” she said. Cops will not allow illegal activities in clubs, she said.A case was registered at Mandya Rural police station. The detained individuals are being questioned to ascertain the extent of gambling network and to identify those who organised and facilitated the illegal activity. Senior police officials said further investigation is under way to determine whether the club was systematically used as a front for unlawful gambling operations.
