Udupi: A man from Udupi was cheated by online fraudsters to the tune of Rs 29 lakh in a ‘gold builder’ job scam. The complainant, Chandrakanth,41, from Mooduthonse, received a message on the Telegram app from @Anjana_198_off. The message offered a daily income of about Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000, if the complainant worked as a gold builder in ‘Royal Mint’, which the accused claimed was a company of the UK govt official organisation. The complainant was offered the opportunity to work using a mobile phone or laptop. Following this, the complainant agreed to take up the job.Later, the complainant received a link to the Royal Mint Platform and transferred Rs 29,68,973 on various occasions between Sept 18 and Oct10. The complainant approached the Udupi CEN police when he did not receive the profit or the money he invested.A case under the IT Act and 318(4) (cheating) of the BNS has been registered.
