Mandya: A gruesome murder shocked residents of Halagur in Malavalli taluk on Friday when unidentified assailants bludgeoned a man to death inside the premises of Halagur Govt Primary Girls’ School.The victim was identified as Ramesh, 31, son of Rangaswamy, a resident of Kuvempu Nagar, Mysuru. About seven to eight years ago, Ramesh left his home following family disputes and was living in Halagur with a relative, working as a mason. For the past three to four years, he reportedly survived by collecting scrap and plastic bottles.Police said the killers smashed Ramesh’s head with a heavy stone slab, killing him on the spot. The motive behind the brutal act is yet to be established.SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, DySP Krishnappa, Halagur circle inspector Sridhar, KM Doddi Circle inspector Anand, along with the dog squad and fingerprint experts, visited the spot.Evidence and blood samples collected at the crime scene have been sent for forensic examination. Different teams have been formed to track down the assailants.Halagur police have registered a case and are investigating.
