Man beaten to death in Mandya over land dispute

Mandya: Following a long-standing land dispute, a 62-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with a wooden club in Chikkade village of Pandavapura taluk.The deceased is Krishnegowda, a resident of Chikkade. According to police, the accused are Krishnegowda’s close relatives. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Chikkade village, where Krishnegowda went to his agricultural field.A heated argument broke out between the victim and the accused over the land dispute. The verbal altercation soon escalated into violence, during which the three accused allegedly assaulted Krishnegowda with a branch of a drumstick tree. After being him on the side of the head, the victim collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.Police said the murder was the result of prolonged hostility between their families. Despite several attempts to resolve the dispute through village elders and informal mediation, hostility continued to simmer, and led to the confrontation on Monday.The body was sent for postmortem, and the last rites were held in Chikkade village on Tuesday. SP Shobharani and additional superintendent of police Thimmaiah visited the spot. Pandavapura police registered a case of murder and took suspects into custody for investigation.
