Mangaluru: A late-night patrol by Kankanady Town police turned tense when a man allegedly attacked two policemen. The accused has been identified as Sulaiman,42, from Hassan.In a complaint, Ashok K, ASI of Kankanady Town police station, stated that on Tuesday night, he along with station staff constable Surendra Kumar, went on night rounds in uniform in the departmental vehicle, leaving the station at 11 pm. While patrolling within the station limits, they were proceeding from Pumpwell towards Padil. Around 12.45am, when they reached near Chick Grill shop located in NR Complex at Naguri, they noticed five to six two-wheelers parked, with about seven to eight people standing there.The complainant instructed the driver to stop the police jeep, and after halting, he asked those standing there why they were loitering at that hour and told them to disperse. At that moment, the accused suddenly came out from inside the shop confronted the complainant. He then attempted to assault the complainant with his hands, but the complainant dodged and escaped. During this time, the accused grabbed the fingerprint scanner device attached to the complainant’s mobile phone, pulled it, broke it into pieces, and threw it to the ground.On seeing this, Surendra Kumar, who was driving the departmental vehicle, came to the complainant’s aid and tried to pacify the accused. However, the accused allegedly kicked Surendra Kumar in the stomach and hip, causing him to fall, and then assaulted him with his hands on the back and neck. The complainant then rushed to assist Surendra Kumar, managed to free him, but the accused again attempted to attack both of them while searching for another object nearby to use, it is alleged.At that point, they called the police station. Soon, constable Rayanna and writer Purushotham arrived at the spot. With their help, the accused was secured and brought to the station by 1am.
