Man accused in counterfeit currency case held

Mangaluru: Mangaluru East police have arrested Nizamuddeen alias Nizam, 33, a resident of Jodumarga in BC Road, who was absconding by not appearing before the court, in a case pertaining to counterfeit currency. Police said the accused has seven criminal cases registered at various police stations in Dakshina Kannada and other districts. Mangaluru East police had registered a case under sections 489(b) (c), and 34 of the IPC against Nizamuddeen in 2023. The court issued eight warrants against Nizamuddeen, who was absconding after getting bail. Based on a tip-off, a police team arrested him from Valalu near Uppinangady on Monday. A case under Section 269 of the BNS was registered against the accused, and he was produced before the court. Nizamuddeen also has cases pending against him in Mangaluru South, Barke, Puttur, Vittal, Madiwala, and Kushalnagar police stations.
