Make Mysuru drug-free for future of students: CM

Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah, who held a marathon KDP meeting for 10 hours with just a little break, directed efforts to control the growing drug network and make Mysuru drug-free for the future of students and youth.A day after the meeting, Siddaramaiah, addressing a press conference at his residence, said he directed the Mysuru city police commissioner, Mysuru SP, and DIG (Southern Range) to prevent the number of crime cases by taking preventive measures. Chargesheets should be submitted within 90 days of FIR registration, and the rate of punishment should be increased, he said. All top police officers have been directed to visit all police stations in their jurisdiction and informed to be friendly with people, except with criminals and listed rowdies. Officers should bring down crimes, including murder and theft, compared to the previous year, he said.Claiming that without the knowledge of the station house officers, there could not have occurred any crime, as well as knowing who drug peddlers and smugglers were, they must keep a close watch.Prevent communal clash: CM to policeCiting that the recent change of police commissioner of Mysuru city and superintendent of police in Dakshina Kannada district has reduced communal tensions in the coastal areas, Siddaramaiah said the same could be done in other districts too if the officer at the helm of affairs takes initiative. In Mangaluru, communal tension has reduced, Siddaramaiah stated.Describing the recent rape and murder of a girl from Kalaburagi in Mysuru during the peak Dasara season as a shameful matter for a civilised society, Siddaramaiah warned that if such incidents happened again, the police commissioner would be directly responsible.Sunburn treatmentSiddaramaiah revealed that all his efforts to treat sunburns that happened during the Ballari padayatra a decade-and-a-half previously didn’t help in treating it.Siddaramaiah said during the Ballari padayatra in 2010, both his hands got sunburned, and he treated it with many ointments but without effect. He also consulted three dermatologists, yet it did not help.
