NEW DELHI: A case has been registered against BJP leader and MLC C T Ravi for allegedly making inflammatory comments during a Lord Ganesha idol immersion event in Maddur town, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday when senior BJP leaders joined a mass immersion programme in Maddur. The event, seen as a show of strength, came in the backdrop of stone-pelting during a Ganesha procession on September 7. Police said Ravi, in his address, allegedly made provocative remarks targeting the minority community. Acting on a complaint from a police officer, Maddur police registered a case under Section 196(1)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to promoting enmity between groups on religious or other grounds. Authorities confirmed that 22 people have so far been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting incident. Tension had gripped Maddur and nearby areas following the violence on Sunday, leading to large-scale protests by right-wing groups on Monday. The BJP subsequently called for a bandh in Maddur on Tuesday.(Wtih agency inputs)
