Mysuru: A lecturer on contract at a higher education institute was booked for seeking sexual favours from girl students studying in different semesters in exchange for internal marks.Jayalakshmipuram police booked a case against the lecturer, Bharat, under various sections of BNS, including 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 75 (sexual harassment), and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), after a senior student filed an FIR with the police on Saturday. The student, in her complaint, claimed the professor was harassing her as well as many students for the last three years by threatening to cut their internal marks.A police officer said the lecturer was harassing girl students for many years and seeking sexual favours in exchange for higher marks in internal examinations, which carry 25 marks. He allegedly invited the complainant to go out with him to a pub and made inappropriate comments about them in his chamber as well as over the phone. He also allegedly threatened to fail the student if she didn’t comply.The lecturer was released on bail by police and was served notice to appear before them for inquiry.
