Mysuru: A unit of Nimhans will be established on a 20-acre plot at Gudamadanahalli in Varuna assembly segment of Mysuru taluk. The state govt sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the project in the budget. As the identified land was encroached, and due to delays in encroachment clearance and the land transfer process, the project was delayed.Following clearance of all land-related disputes, Mysuru taluk administration transferred the land to Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute. The premier institute’s dean and director Dr KR Dakshayini received the documents, paving the way for the project’s launch. The chief administrative officer of MMC and RI, Mahesh, who took the land under the institution’s control from the Mysuru district administration, directed officials to fence the 20 acres before starting the construction of a full-fledged hospital unit. The state medical education and health and family welfare departments, which are funding the project, prepared the blueprint and took the necessary administrative approval for construction of the hospital building. The authorities planned to take up the works in two phases. In the 20 acres of the campus, two separate building blocks will be constructed on 1.5 acres. An acre of land will be utilised to build a six-storey building block, which will house various units such as neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychiatry, neuroanaesthesia, a laboratory, an administrative building, and a blood bank, among other facilities.A two-storey de-addiction and rehabilitation block will come up at the site.Speaking to TOI, Dr KR Dakshayini said that the state medical education department will float a tender within 15 days to start the project, as the district administration transferred the required land for construction of the facility.
