The incident occurred around 11 pm on Friday when the lake in Oppatteswar Mutt field, under the jurisdiction of the zilla panchayat department, overflowed.Excess water spilled into the Agasi stream, flooding the Hanuman temple adjacent to the Muslim Colony, Kalashetti Colony in Kshetriyara Colony, and more than 50 houses. Household items, including grains and cotton, were damaged. A tempo vehicle owned by Zafar Ali Bairamadigi was swept away amid the torrential rains.Crops and paddy fields starting from Madiya lake to Benneshirur village area were washed away, resulting in significant losses. Restoring the fields has become a challenging task. All residents were could not sleep throughout the night due to water entering their homes.Additionally, a large pond used as a drinking water tank for the village was damaged. Suryakanta Ramaji, a senior farmer of the village, stated, “The bridge at the ake has collapsed 10 feet, and traffic on the connecting road from Madiyala to Alanda is in chaos.”Aland tahasildar Annarao Patil, taluk panchayat EO Manappa Kattimani, zilla panchayat AEE Sangamesh Biradar, senior assistant director of horticulture department Surendranath Honnappagola, and assistant in-charge director of agriculture department Banasiddappa Biradar announced that a team comprising department staff would conduct a joint inspection to assess the damage, estimate losses, prepare an action plan for road and bridge repairs, and submit a final report to the govt.
