Mysuru: Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) is all set to introduce Kolkata-style Durga Puja festival lights for Dasara festivities here this year. The plan includes illuminating 136 km of streets, decorating 116 major circles, and installing 76 unique display models, adding a fresh sparkle to the city. With just about two weeks to go for Dasara celebrations to begin, CESC has intensified its work to complete the illumination in time for the festivities. The LED lighting systems, a common sight at Durga Puja pandals across West Bengal, are expected to be a big draw in Mysuru Dasara this year, recreating scenes from mythology, reproducing famous monuments, and creating social awareness on various issues – all through moving and static images created with lights. The new lighting system, that uses lakhs of LED bulbs, replacing metal halide lights, is expected to be more energy-efficient, thereby helping reduce costs and lower carbon footprints. All major roads, parks, and corporation buildings in the city will be adorned with these lights. According to a CESC estimate, 2.5 lakh units of electricity will be consumed during the 21 days of Dasara illumination. Speaking to TOI, CESC managing director K M Munigopalaraju said all necessary safety measures have been adhered to for Dasara illumination.
