Madikeri: ‘Kodava Pusthaka Pathaya’, an initiative of the Kodava Sahitya Academy to promote and preserve Kodava literature and culture through reading books, was launched by Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna.Speaking at the launch ceremony held at Virajpet on Saturday, Ponnanna opined that the project was commendable. He said the initiative will help pass on the culture to future generations and urged community members to support it by establishing Kodava literature bookshelves in their homes.
The president of the Academy, AC Mahesh Nanaiah, said that the Kodava language has a long history and urged the community to pass on the language and culture to the next generation. He said more opportunities must be extended to promote Kodava writers and added that this initiative will strengthen Kodava literature. “The aim is to establish a Kodava bookshelf in every Kodava Samaja and Kodava-speaking society,” he said, urged literature lovers to take advantage of the initiative. He said that the Kodava bookshelf will help preserve the literature of all those who pushed the Kodava literary field to its peak.Cheppudira Arun Machaiah, vice-president of the Karnataka State Sports Authority, lauded the efforts of the Academy. “The use of the Kodava language should increase. Parents who are settled abroad should teach their children the Kodava language and literature,” he opined. Kodava Samaja office-bearers and Kodava writers were present during the programme.
